How to apply HOTFIX applique

Here's a quick and basic guide to applying hotfix appliques.
Here's the basic how-to...
Hotfix Iron-on Rhinestone Application Instructions
- Set your iron to a high setting (wool/cotton). Turn the steam OFF. Place the fabric on a firm, flat surface.
*If using a heat press machine, set it to 340 degrees and press 15 seconds facing upwards and 10 additional seconds flipped over. It is advisable to use a Teflon sheet or a towel if you don’t have one.
- If applicable, insert a piece of paper between the front and back of the garment so the glue will not seep to the back side.
- Peel the white paper backing off the plastic transfer paper if there is a backing paper (iron on appliques don’t have this). Place the transfer sticky side down on the fabric. It may be gently removed and re-positioned at this point. If it is a patch then just lay the patch where you want it (there isn’t a sticky film with iron on patches).
- Iron the transfer with firm, even pressure. It is best to use a Teflon ironing sheet to more evenly distribute the heat and pressure and also keep the iron touching the motif. If you do not have an ironing sheet, you can also use a thin cloth such as a tea towel. Do not wiggle the iron as it can loosen/move some of the stones or shift the patch (depending on what you are applying). Heat at least 20 seconds per position. Ensure that all stones/areas are heated and have pressure applied. The stones/areas under your iron’s vent holes will not receive pressure, so be sure to use the middle of your iron.
***If your applique is particularly thick or is a vinyl print then you may need a higher heat or a longer application process- feel free to contact us for advice as we have lots of experience!
